Who Fell In Defence Of The Cabul

Residency On Sept. 3rd 1879

 

 

This Memorial

Has Been Erected To

Perpetuate the Remembrance

Of the Conspicuous Gallantry

Of the Officers Non Commissioned

Officers and Men of the Queen’s Own

Corps of Guides Who When Escort to

Major Sir Louis Cavagnari K.C.S.

Fell In Defence Of The Residency

At Cabul On Sept. 3rd 1879.

The Commission Of Enquiry Of Which

Col. C. M. MacGregor Was President

Recorded As Follows “They Do Not Give

Their Opinion Hastily But They Believe

That The Annals Of No Army And No

Regiment Can Shew A Brighter Record

Of Devoted Bravery Than Has Been

Achieved By This Small Band Of Guides.

By Their Deeds They Have Conferred

Undying Honour Not Only To The Regiment

To Which They Belong But On The Whole

British Army”.
